National Cultural Institutions Today

The Arts and Theatre Institute would like to invite you to the public forum focused on the Mission and Role of National Cultural Institutions in the context of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Nation-States in Central and Eastern Europe.

How has the role of national cultural institutions changed in the current social and political contexts defined by the tension between the national “us” and global parapolis? What values and ideas do they represent nowadays? What is their authority in their relation to the public and other people working in the field of culture? How should we understand the relations among culture, institutions and democracy in the current political state in Europe? The representatives of academia and arts from Central, Eastern and Western Europe are going to discuss these questions related to the upcoming 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia at the public forum. The event takes place at the occasion of the 16th annual meeting of the authors of the Compendia of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe initiated by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the European Institute for Comparative Cultural Research, which is going to take place in Prague on 8th – 9th November 2017. The forum is conducted in English. Interpreting from English to Czech is arranged.
