The e-Books on Demand (EOD) is the result of an international cooperation between European libraries. The aim of the project is to provide the broadest range of users with access to books published before 1900 (respectively before 1910) that are not copyright protected.

Four libraries in the Czech Republic are participating in this project – the National Technical Library, the Moravian Library, the Research Library in Olomouc, and the Academy of Sciences Library. The Library of the Theatre Institute entered into an agreement with the National Technical Library, thus allows the EOD to request documents from the Library of the Theatre Institute.

Thanks to the new EOD services, interested clients can order documents from the Theatre Institute Library from 1500 to 1900 as an electronic document. The fee for 1 digitalized page is 4 CZK and an additional 200 CZK is required as a service fee for the entire order.

The document will be digitalized within 14 days (the customer will receive notification if there are any delays). The customer will then receive a link (valid for 60 days) where he can download the e-book in PDF format from the Internet.

The service is not limited to only the Czech Republic, but researchers from around the world who are interested in historical theatre collection can use this service.

The EOD project is unique in that it is not only a quick way of obtaining electronic copies of the documents: users directly influence the selection of documents that are digitalized. The digitalized documents acquired through this service will be stored in the Theatre Institute’s digital collection found in the Kramerius Library.

More information about these services can be found on the National Technical Library website.
