Dalibor Tureček: Contradictory Affinities (the German-Language Contexts of Revivalist Drama

The publication focuses on conventional German-language drama and especially on the Czech reception of the Viennese suburban theatres (including Nestroy and Raimund) and the reception of sentimental drama (in particular the plays of A. von Kotzebue and E. Raupach). These plays were strongly represented in the repertoires of Czech theatres. Consequently the publication devotes attention to the specific form of individual translations and in comparison with the original German versions. Possible parallels were sought with original Czech work. German-language production formed an important part of contemporary production and many aspects of the plays of Tyl and Klicpera and Czech work on the whole can be interpreted in relation to it.
